Cable through both wheels: YES (good)
Cable through frame: NO (bad)
Cable through bike rack: NO (really, really bad)
Notice how this bicycle could be easily lifted off the rack. Usually I see bike-parking like this on a parking meter, allowing a thief to simply lift bike and lock vertically off the meter, but this is the first time I've seen this error on a bike rack.

The best security measure on this bike just may be what appears to be a pair of vise-grips holding the rear wheel on.
Bar ends on risers...Bike Snob would NOT approve.

I missed that (just one pair, as I inspected the bent derailleur), so I went back out to look. It was gone, but another department store had taken its place.
A whole new kind of "quick release".
FYI: John Buffum won the New England SCCA Pro Rally, driving a Cosworth Ford Escort, using two Vise-Grips for a steering wheel (after the original sheered off).
Even without the vice grips, no one would steal the bike because it is just such a crappy bike.
Hey, Doohickie - I was sorta eying that tire pump. It looks like a Topeak from the photo & one can never have too many portable pumps...
I've gotten in the habit of leaving my helmet with the bike, straps through the U-lock. Obviously, this can be easily defeated by anyone with a pair of scissors but I've read that helmets rarely get stolen since there is virtually no market for used helmets, particularly those with broken straps.
This morning, I left my gloves sitting in the helmet. I wasn't too worried about them, I mean who would want my dirty, stinky gloves? Turns out I was wrong. Someone stole the gloves, the rack strap and the rear light off my bike today. Curiously, they left the ($10) computer, the front wheel, and the seat - all of which were not secured.
Ironically, I got a call today from DART - they have a bike locker available for me!
Stuart, where do they have you park at the Crystal Pavilion?
They have a bike rack in the parking garage at the Infomart. It was at White Rock Station where my stuff was stolen, though.
Up on the platform, or down by the bus bays?
Down by the bus bays. This is the same place my previous two bikes were stolen. Then again, I've left bikes there hundreds of times without incident.
