Allow me to direct your attention elsewhere.

Over here, for example.

Thanks, Risan! Fixed!

I don't know why Blogger added that little prefix (well, I do know why, but I refuse to accept it).

I'm so irritated by the way that comment thread went. It could have been a nice chance for calm discussion, instead it spiriled into the normal ventfest.

I posted a thoughtful, optimistic comment with links to CyclistView and Commute Orlando shortly after the article was posted and it is *still* being held for review. Bleh.

PM - This thread reminded me.... I really want the Bike Map routes on Google Maps. Do you know if anyone has even tried to start working on that?

If nothing else, maybe a community effort at creating a Google Earth KML file would be helpful.

FYI: http://www.idahostatesman.com/235/story/801095.html?storylink=omni_popular

"Witnesses said Kevin Pavlis was in the designated bike lane on Hill Road heading east when he was hit at 7:44 p.m. Thursday. A teenage driver of an SUV turned into the cyclist while making a left turn from the opposite lane."

Eliot: Someone posted a Google Maps link here a while back. The KML is there if you want it. Sure would be nice is someone official would make the data publicly available, though.

OF COURSE it's too hot to ride a bike in Dallas! I hear it'll melt the rubber right off your wheels over there. I also hear they hunt cyclists down with dogs over there...

;-)

Stuart and Elliot,

The routes are available as a GIS file, but I am unsure of the format. I queried Google about them importing our files for their map, but several attempts were met with silence. So I gave up.

I would suggest you contact the new Dallas Bicycle Coordinator, and ask him to work on making this happen. He is a nice guy.

First of all, thank you :-)

It might have been nabbed by the spam filter if it had 2 or more links. That's pretty common. If that's the case, the author may not see it to approve it. You could try again with just one link at a time and see if it works.
