Commute Orlando contributor Fred_dot_u (have I got that right?) certainly presents a clear, non-cowering, message. My only suggestion would be for a couple (or even one) SAE amber reflector between the industrial blinkies.
More non-cowering cyclists (and HPV operators), please.
P.S. If you like the message on the back of Fred's HPV, it's available as a 100% cotton polo shirt from the Cycle*Dallas gift shop.

I've got one that is collared, and use it as a commuting shirt. I'd love to buy one in a more advanced fabric, however, so it will vent sweat better on hot afternoons.
Rich, I wish they had a "higher tech" version, but at least it's not "air-tight polyester".
fred_dot_u got it "righter" yesterday, after applying DOT spec red reflector tape between the taillights (the kind found on truck trailers) which is blindingly bright in headlights, and a pair of the white reflectors on the upper corners of the sign as well. The "industrial strength" blinkies are high-intensity LED taillights, always on. The photo doesn't show the intensity very well, but in the dark, it's quite bright.
The vinyl for the sign was created by eric(at)abcwings.com and he has heat-transfer vinyl that can be applied to the clothing of your choice. Because he already has the sign in his "library", one would need only to request the width and/or height desired, specify white or black heat-transfer vinyl and he can slice you out an iron-on with some pretty respectable durability.
A more comprehensive description of the lighting and more photos are available at

Looking for some help here I just stumbled across this site. I plan on changing my work commute up, and biking most of it, with the help of dart. I have been spending a while looking up safty and proper road safety and etiquette.
I know this isn't the right place but if there an active online form where I could get help planning a route in the dallas area (south of 635).
Clay, you've come to the right place. Give me a starting point and and a final destination, and I will give you a map with recommendations.
Look through the information in the right hand column of this page. Everything you need to know (almost) can be found over there, especially under the "Technical" heading.
Welcome! We may fight dragons here, but we also help the weary traveler.
Welcome Clay! As for proper road safety and etiquette, my advice is to ride large.
If you know how to operate an automobile in traffic, you know how to ride a bike in one.
If the lane is less than 14 feet wide (The average car is just over six feet wide, so any lane that two cars would not be able to travel side by side in is a "narrow lane".)you have the legal right to ride anywhere in it you see fit. And that would be where motorists have to change lanes to pass you, away from the edge, visible to crossing traffic- in the middle of the lane.
PM is the best resource foe great bicycle routes! Dart rail and busses are both rather bike friendly as well. Best wishes on your new commute!
I am coming from the lower greenville area, matilda and belmont, and I am looking to get to the business buildsing behind medical city dallas, off merit dr. I was thinking I Could take some combo of Dart and White Rock Lake Trail, seeing as it ends right there.
