What? A green vehicle carrying a green vehicle? Better to see that, than a big ol' honkin' SUV carrying the bike.
You'da been proud of me today; I tried a new route which included riding along one of the busier stretches of Bryant Irvin Road in Fort Worth, takin' the lane, baby.
"What? A green vehicle carrying a green vehicle? Better to see that, than a big ol' honkin' SUV carrying the bike."
A Ford Expedition (or Chevy Tahoe) of the same year model as that Prius (once the cats kick in) would have little or no more air quality impact for that short trip to the lake than the Prius does. The cold-start is the killer.
If one buys a gas/electric hybrid for air quality/environmental issues, it's hypocritical to abuse the environment by using it to haul a bicycle to a trail. Ride to the trail, or ride in the neighborhood.
It's like buying recycled paper, and then throwing it in the land fill.
Actually, the bike got a flat and the rider had forgotten to bring a patch kit, spare tube, or pump along, and that was the first time this year they'd had the car out of the garage.
That reminds me of a post (a long time ago) about a bike with a "One Less Car" sticker hanging off a big luxury (Mercedes?) SUV that I saw on BiksnobNYC...

I saw a "One Less Car" sticker in the rear window of a Ford F-150 truck the other day. Technically, I guess he was right.

But what if they live in a distant suburb but wanted to meet friends for a ride along a trail? I still don't see the hypocrisy in the image.

And the driver was singing "Kumbaya."
