Here's my preferred helmet for downtown and neighborhood riding. Notice the excellent ventilation. It's made of resin-impregnated organic fiber strands, it's stiff, and the 2-ply woven fabric gives it good crush/impact absorption. It stays on my head, has an integral sweat pad (removable for cleaning), and is very cool in 100˚F temperatures. It even has an ANSI sticker in it.
I would love to see a cycling-specific helmet manufactured from the same material.

Does it have a SNELL rating? I need a SNELL helmet for autocross. SNELL 2000 if I recall the latest rules.
I saw you riding down Main in that snazzy hat last week. Lookin' good, PM!
So PM uses a helmet for sun protection! Cool, at least in that way it is useful. I have a few thoughts about how to make a helmet useful... (To be expounded upon soon!)
Our local CIC blog has put up the umteenth helmet admonishment this week. AFAIK they have never put up a post on how to avoid a crash.

The design of this helmet would actually provide impact protection in the crash-type where bicycle crash helmets are most effective... falling off a bike while mounting and dis-mounting.

The word's getting out. Not only am I a teddy bear, I'm a bicicli-fashionista as well. ;-)
