Unlike some other studies going around, this one wasn't produced by a sales team, an advocate group, or a critic. It simply measures the safety impact of cycle-tracks and sidepaths based upon serious accident data.
Do you know what the "sidepaths" looked like in Berlin in the mid-80s? I'm curious if there are any significant differences between those sidepaths and modern cycle-tracks that are being promoted by groups from NYC, Portland, and Copenhagen.
I really like that the study broke out the "normal age range" data.
And gosh. Those 3d charts from the 80s have to go.
Best quote: "It can only be hoped that the planned bicycle routes will not, once again, be so poorly designed, that it is not possible to ride fast, safely or comfortably, and that a real opportunity to encourage bicycle use will be wasted."

Great, honest article that should be sent to every city council member. I'll volunteer.
