Do mandatory bicycle helmet laws reduce cycling?

Yes.

Believe it or not, this is well known by many mandatory helmet law supporters (like the former chief epidemiologist of Dallas County), and considered a good thing, because they believe that bicycling is an inherently dangerous activity, something far too many bicycle "advocates" echo.

What's inherently dangerous is fear-driven ignorance, coupled with a desire for no accountability.

Any kid that rides a bike whose model name is "Wipeout" OUGHT to be wearing a helmet whether on or off the bike! What model name comes next, "Roadkill?"

Today, I discovered one unquestionable benefit to wearing a helmet when riding, though it works best with a helmet with small vent holes. It keeps the hail from hurting your head. Perhaps it even saved my life had that hail happened to be a lot bigger. ;-)

Ha! I hadn't noticed the bike name!

Is there any way we can get the Dallas city code changed, about bicycle helmets? I'm not a crack dealer and they don't need to check my bike bag. I'm guessing the drug dealers on bikes are now wearing helmets.
I love the newspaper articles about bike accidents. The cyclist was traveling west on blah blah road and a 90 mph car driven by a drunk hit him. He died at the scene and he wasn't wearing a helmet.

The same way the Council enacted it.

I like the bike helmets that look more like skate helmets. A couple of brands that I like include bern and triple 8. You can see them at http://zoobom.com
